On Tuesday, July 24, follow a student’s journey to improve water quality from the lab where it began to the campus pilot project where it became reality.

Biological and agricultural engineering Ph.D. student Bryan Maxwell and recent graduate Dani Winter will take us on a behind-the-scenes tour of “floating islands.” Both work in faculty member Dr. Francois Birgand’s lab, where they are researching whether these unique islands of plants can improve the quality of stormwater.

We’ll start at noon. Weaver Labs at 3100 Faucette Drive to see a small study in the lab before walking (less than 10 minutes) to a campus stormwater pond where floating islands are functioning and being actively researched. Bring your reusable water bottle and we’ll bring popsicles to keep everyone cool.
